Storytelling Performance, Video Installation (including inkjet print, archival materials), variable dimensions
The work combines moving image and performative reading, drawing on ongoing artistic research into temples, colonial architecture, and the stories that inhabit these spaces. Developed during a residency in Kyoto, it explores how certain places retain memories of the past, like echoes that never fully disappear. Bringing together images of temple architecture, archival traces, ghost stories, and Zen koans, the work explores the invisible forces that continue to shape the present. Ghosts emerge as figures of unresolved histories, inherited emotions, and memories that return across generations.
Through a slow sequence of images, sound, and spoken narrative, the work creates a space of suspension between ritual, storytelling, and cinema. It invites reflection on the ghosts that accompany the living, the memories held within places, and the possibilities of mourning and coexistence with what remains unresolved.
This project was supported by the Mondriaan Fund and the Goethe-Institut Villa Kamogawa.
